DETAILS
The apartment is about 60 msq and it has, as well, a little terrace;
it is situated on the second floor of a small 17th century apartment
building elegantly restored, amid the ruins of the Apollo Sosiano's
Temple. The large living room faces a bright terrace which enjoys
a panoramic view on the Roman ruins. The well-lighted living room
is furnished with a double sofa bed, a dinner table, antique sideboard
and furniture. The double bedroom, that has a panoramic window
on the ruins, is furnished with a comfortable king-size bed, a
wardrobe, a chest of drawers and TV color. The kitchenette, that
communicates with the terrace, is equipped with gas-stove, fridge,
wdish-washer, pots, cutlery. The large bathroom is provided with
a shower-stall. The gas heating is indipendent. The apartment
is an architectonic jewel, carefully and elegantly refined.
AREA
The apartment is situated in the Jewish Quarter which lies between
the Isola Tiberina and Largo di Torre Argentina. The Jews who
formerly lived in Trastevere moved to the left bank of the Tiber
in the 13th century. Pope Paul IV (1555-59) had the area enclosed
within a wall thus creating the Roman ghetto. The wall ran from
Ponte Fabricio along Via del Portico d'Ottavia returning to the
riverbank along Via del Progresso. The gates were opened at dawn
and closed in the evening on the 4000 inhabitants (in 1656). The
ghetto ended in 1848; the walls were taken down and the houses
demolished in 1888. Some of the most important tourist places
in the zone are Tempio di Apollo Sosiano, Teatro Marcello, the
Synagogue, the Church of St. Angelo in Pescheria, the Turtle Fountain,
Palazzo Mattei, Piazza Venezia.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The apartment is just 15 minutes walk from the underground station
"Colosseo" and it is well served from the ATAC bus lines
